Orkut = Social Networking - Ads

October 3rd, 2007

Recently, Google has removed all the ads from there social networking site Orkut. Google said that these ads were only on 1 percent of the total Orkut pages. They said that the deployment of ads was under a ‘test run’, as these test doesn’t deliver high returns, they were removed.

But lack of revenue is not the actual cause of ad removal. Google removed the ads from Orkut after recieving complains from a Brazillian nonprofit group, SafeNet. SafeNet alleged that Google is showing ads next to the illegal content that is posted on this site, such as child pornography, this way Google is profiting from these crimes.
